The Leader Mindset

The Leader Mindset

August 9, 2025

If you’re a business owner you’ve probably struggled with letting go. We all have at one point or another. We tend to think we are the only ones who can do the important tasks that need to be done in the company. We don’t trust anyone else to do the work so we end up doing everything ourselves.

You would think in a company with 10 or 12 employees there would be someone who can handle the bookkeeping. There would be someone who can do the marketing. Someone who is good at rallying everyone together to complete a project. I could go on and on with this list.

Ask The Question

Here’s what I have observed with the businesses we have worked with over the last several years. Many business owners never bother to ask their employees what kind of work actually gives them energy vs. what drains them. You might be shocked by what you learn.

Here’s the thing. Your team has strengths you had no idea they had. And by insisting on doing everything yourself you are wasting their skills and talent. You are not allowing them to grow. Have you ever dreaded Monday mornings? Do your employees dread Monday mornings? Now you know why. They are not doing the work that makes them excited to get out of bed and come to work every day and probably not the work they are best at.

Leader Mindset

Leaders develop other leaders. That’s the leader mindset. A good leader wants his or her team to develop their strengths and become leaders. You need them to grow as leaders so you can at least take a vacation!

If you are doing everything yourself because of a lack of trust and faith in your team and an unwillingness to train them to do the work, your business is on a dead end road. It cannot grow because you are not physically or mentally able to do everything. As Jim Rohn said “If you’re not growing you’re dying.”

Make the effort to ask them the question- “What kind of work actually gives you energy vs. what drains you?” If you don’t have employees yet then ask yourself that question. That might help you decide that it’s time to start hiring.

That's it for this time. See you next week!

Not Everything You’re Delaying Is Procrastination May 16, 2026 This week's newsletter was written by my wife Ericka. She has brought up an important insight on a topic that I thought you needed to hear about because most of us deal with it on a regular basis. The topic of procrastination is something we tend to beat ourselves up on and cause ourselves undue stress frequently. As you will read below, maybe there's another way of thinking about it. I hope this helps someone out there. From The...

The Power Of Referrals- Yep, Still May 8, 2026 The Power Of Referrals #4 From “The Things I’ve learned In Business” series. Referrals are one of those things that is often forgotten when entrepreneurs market their businesses. It’s not flashy or impressive when you tell someone your business is successful mostly because of referrals. We want to talk instead about the brilliant job we did in creating our latest sales funnel or about our YouTube channel running 24 hours a day sending us...

Learning And Relearning To See May 1, 2026 Early in life we are taught to make a plan. Decide what you want to do and plan your career. But those lifelong plans rarely work out the way we initially intended. I went through several businesses with a “plan” for each one to be a huge success. Life has a funny way of changing plans. Today if you tried to make a 20 year plan it would be pointless, especially if it’s a business plan. What happened? Technology happened. And it is summed up by this...
