Don't Be The Fly

Don't Be The Fly

October 10, 2025

About 5 years ago I came across a book called-

You²- A High Velocity Formula for Multiplying Your Personal Effectiveness In Quantum Leaps by Price Pritchett. You can order the book here.

It’s a tiny book, only about 35 pages. But it’s one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read especially for entrepreneurs struggling with being overworked, overwhelmed, and stuck.

You squared is about “accomplishing far more, in less time, with only a fraction of the effort you’ve been giving.” The introduction tells a story about the author sitting in a cabin in the woods in Canada. He’s watching a fly banging into the window trying to get out. The fly is literally working itself to death trying to fly through the glass, crashing into it over and over. Only a few steps away is an open door. The fly could have made a slight adjustment, and with very little effort flown over to the door and out to freedom.

We Are The Fly

As entrepreneurs we are often like the fly, although most of us are hesitant to admit it. We bang our heads into some invisible wall thinking that if we work hard enough and just a few more hours, and even a few more hours we will find success. We will attain the sought after “financial freedom” everyone talks about. And like the fly, there is an open door just a few steps away that we could walk through and reach our goals with a lot less effort.

The sad truth is we all know that open door is there. But it’s hard to admit to ourselves that all that hard work we’ve been putting ourselves through wasn’t necessary. That there was an easier way.

It's There

But the door is there. If you are a person that likes to exercise you can see it first hand in a very short period of time. I workout everyday with weights and pushups. I was using progressively heavier weights and more reps as time went on. I was adding on more pushups and different varieties of pushups. The goal was to make the workout harder and build more muscle. But as I increased the weight and the difficulty of pushups, past a certain point I noticed very little improvement, and started feeling pain in my joints.

Better Results, Less Work

That’s when someone suggested I stick with the lower weights and the easier pushups but slow down the pace. Raise and lower the weights slower, hold them in place at the top for a few seconds. Do the same with the pushups. It didn’t take long before I saw results. More muscle, better muscle tone, less joint pain. I found the door in the invisible wall. Better results, less work.

The Ego Trap

This works in business as well. We all know it does. But sometimes our ego gets in the way. That’s ok. We’re human. It happens. Make a course correction toward the open door. Maybe it’s time to get help. Start hiring and training people. Get an assistant. Get a coach and a mentor. You don’t have to do everything yourself. Repeat that out loud: “I don’t have to do everything myself.”

There’s also this new AI thingy. It works wonders. You can use it to turn days into minutes. And it’s cheap. It has saved me a lot of time and work. So have an open mind, get some tools, hire some people and save yourself from the fly’s fate. Life is short. Don’t miss out on it.

Don’t be the fly.

That's it for this time. See you next week!

Overcoming The 3 D's Of Failure November 22, 2025 What causes failure? Can it be narrowed down to one cause? Usually not. I’ll present three causes here today. And in case you’re wondering, these are three causes of failure that I have had to deal with in my past and present adventures in business. 1. Dabbling- This is when you’re not fully committed to the business idea that you are pursuing. It sounds like something you would like to do or try. It’s fun and you think it will be a successful...

When Automations & Systems Don't Work November 15, 2025 The purpose of automations and systems is to reduce friction and make tasks easier. The idea is to reduce the work required to perform a task. If you can take a task normally performed by humans and either create a system to standardize how the task is performed or automate the task, your business should be more efficient and more productive, right? But…and this is a big but, the system or automation has to actually work as intended....

Who You Are Is Who You Attract November 7, 2025 As entrepreneurs and business owners there are many aspects to our lives and businesses we have to be aware of in order to achieve and maintain success and build our financial momentum. One of the most overlooked areas in your business is you. Or more specifically, knowing yourself. I know, it sounds very touchy feely. And I’m not a touchy feely kind of guy. But this is real and there is a financial return on knowing who you are. “Who you are is...
