Who You Are Is Who You Attract

Who You Are Is Who You Attract

November 7, 2025

As entrepreneurs and business owners there are many aspects to our lives and businesses we have to be aware of in order to achieve and maintain success and build our financial momentum. One of the most overlooked areas in your business is you. Or more specifically, knowing yourself. I know, it sounds very touchy feely. And I’m not a touchy feely kind of guy. But this is real and there is a financial return on knowing who you are.

“Who you are is who you attract” John Maxwell

If you’ve ever wondered why personal development is so important and such a big business this is why. Your self leadership and personal growth will determine who you attract to your world of customers, business associates, employees, team members, mentors, friends and romantic relationships. Your values will attract people of similar values. Know who you are and be the kind of person you want to attract because most of the time you will attract people just like you.

Of course if you’re a jerk you have a problem. You’ll need to work on that. Because the last thing you want in your life is to be alone. Because even jerks don’t like jerks. So if you are one, rather than attracting anyone, you will repel everyone.

Look at any business and compare the employees to the person who hired them. Compare them to the values projected by the company. The same goes for your customers. Loyal repeat customers usually buy based on how they are treated, how the owner and employees act, and how they “feel” when they’re doing business with you and not just on price or product.

When we work with a small business one of the first things we do is have them go through a process of creating a document that helps get their team in alignment and working toward a common goal. A large part of that process is laying out values for the company and for employees. In other words, what kind of people do we want to be for our customers? It sounds obvious doesn’t it. But in most small businesses it’s overlooked and non-existent. And just to be clear, a small business is usually a very accurate image of its owner(s).

Why? Because “Who you are is who you attract”.

76 Million Retiring Boomers & You March 7, 2026 There are 76 million Baby Boomers in the US and they have been retiring at an impressive rate. But only about 10% have retired. That’s a small number. In less than 5 years all Boomers will have reached the age of 65. Of course not everyone will automatically retire at 65. Some will never retire either by choice or out of necessity. This massive number of retirees creates an opportunity for younger buyers as well as for Boomers. Uncertain Exit...

What Value Do You Provide? February 27, 2026 “We're all equal as souls, but we are not equal in the marketplace.” That quote came from Jim Rohn. Early in Tony Robbins’ career when he was very young, he worked for Jim Rohn. One day he was complaining about how someone made tens of millions of dollars when he sold his business and how unfair it was that a lot of people are starving and hurting and not making money and this guy made millions selling his business. And then Jim Rohn answered back...

Know When To Walk Away February 20, 2026 #2 From the “Things I’ve Learned In Business” series. As business owners we spend a lot of time and energy making things work. We work on our business. We work on deal making. We analyze, calculate, contemplate, and discuss ourselves to death on the final decision of whatever project we happen to be working on. Was it worth it? There is a statement, a philosophy really, that I have come to believe in. “If it is meant to be it will happen.” I have used...
