Hit The Reset Button

If you have ever called an IT person you have probably been told to use this fix a million times when asking for help with your computer- “Turn your computer off and back on again.” That cleared up a lot of problems. Older PCs had a reset button. Most computers today no longer have a reset button. Some do but you have to know where to look. The reset button restarts the system with a single button push and it was usually used when the system locked up and prevented a normal shutdown.

What About Business?

Wouldn’t it be great if business had a reset button? Well it does if you know where to look. Most businesses eventually get to a place where just like your PC, it gets locked up. You can no longer move forward. Everything slows down and you start to get error messages. Only in your business the error messages are coming from people. They are coming from your team, your bookkeeper or accountant, your banker, and your customers. And whether you realize it or not a good portion of the error messages are coming from you.

Sometimes you just have to hit the reset button. Whatever it is you’re doing, wherever you are in your business, sometimes you are just better off with a reboot. You clear out the cache, clear the browser history, scan for viruses and other malware, and clear out the junk files on your hard drive.

We periodically come to this point in our business. Things change in business- technology, products, best practices, team members, and growth happens. Sometimes we just get overwhelmed and stuck. When it happens I always have to remind myself "Time to reset."

Below is a “reset button” process for a business. It's best to have someone to guide you through the process.

1. Align Your Team- Align your team around a common operational mission and values. Provide them with leadership and communication training.

2. Clarify Your Message- Reset your marketing and sales by creating a clear message that helps you connect with more of your ideal customers.

3. Streamline Operations- Build efficient systems so your business can run even when you're not there.

These steps are designed to help you get your business to run smoothly even when you are not there. The actual implementation of these steps is a lot more in-depth.

76 Million Retiring Boomers & You March 7, 2026 There are 76 million Baby Boomers in the US and they have been retiring at an impressive rate. But only about 10% have retired. That’s a small number. In less than 5 years all Boomers will have reached the age of 65. Of course not everyone will automatically retire at 65. Some will never retire either by choice or out of necessity. This massive number of retirees creates an opportunity for younger buyers as well as for Boomers. Uncertain Exit...

What Value Do You Provide? February 27, 2026 “We're all equal as souls, but we are not equal in the marketplace.” That quote came from Jim Rohn. Early in Tony Robbins’ career when he was very young, he worked for Jim Rohn. One day he was complaining about how someone made tens of millions of dollars when he sold his business and how unfair it was that a lot of people are starving and hurting and not making money and this guy made millions selling his business. And then Jim Rohn answered back...

Know When To Walk Away February 20, 2026 #2 From the “Things I’ve Learned In Business” series. As business owners we spend a lot of time and energy making things work. We work on our business. We work on deal making. We analyze, calculate, contemplate, and discuss ourselves to death on the final decision of whatever project we happen to be working on. Was it worth it? There is a statement, a philosophy really, that I have come to believe in. “If it is meant to be it will happen.” I have used...
