Procrastination Gets Blamed For A Lot

Not Everything You’re Delaying Is Procrastination

May 16, 2026

This week's newsletter was written by my wife Ericka. She has brought up an important insight on a topic that I thought you needed to hear about because most of us deal with it on a regular basis. The topic of procrastination is something we tend to beat ourselves up on and cause ourselves undue stress frequently. As you will read below, maybe there's another way of thinking about it. I hope this helps someone out there.

From The Leadership Mastermind Newsletter-

Procrastination Gets Blamed For A Lot

But have you ever considered it could be possible not everything you’re delaying is avoidance.

Sometimes… it’s prioritization.

I recently started exploring the idea of launching a podcast.

At first, it felt like a great next step. A new way to share ideas, have meaningful conversations, and expand my reach.

I even began recording one.

And as we were talking, the conversation kept coming back to procrastination. We need to stop procrastinating. We need to just get it done.

In the moment, it made sense.

But later, after I had time to reflect, I saw it differently.

As I got further into the process, I realized something I hadn’t fully considered:

The level of commitment it would take to do it well.

Not just recording episodes, but planning, scheduling, editing, promoting.

And I had to ask myself:

Is this a priority right now?

Not because it isn’t valuable. But because I already have other commitments that require my focus.

That’s when it clicked.

What we were calling procrastination… wasn’t actually procrastination.

It was prioritization.

Here’s where a lot of people get stuck:

When you haven’t decided what matters most, everything feels urgent.

And when everything feels urgent, anything you don’t do feels like procrastination.

But let’s not let ourselves off the hook too easily.

Sometimes it is procrastination.

And when it is, it usually has nothing to do with time.

It’s discomfort.

A hard conversation. A decision you’ve been avoiding. Something that requires more from you than you’re ready to give.

So here’s the filter:

Does this not matter right now? Or am I avoiding it?

Clarity or courage.

That’s the difference.

Strong leaders don’t just manage time.

They decide what matters, and they act accordingly.

Today's Reflection: What are you calling procrastination right now… that might actually be a lack of prioritization?

Yours in Growth,

Ericka

A Change Of Plans June 12, 2026 Don't forget you can read past articles by Clicking Here A Change Of Plans Long term planning is obsolete. Or maybe I should say how we define Long Term is no longer accurate. As business owners and entrepreneurs planning is a way of life. I’ve always been a big fan of having a plan. Whenever I invested in real estate I always had a plan for what I would do with it(renovations, tenants, lease, etc.), how long I would keep it, and when I would sell and for how...

Consistency Creates Momentum June 6, 2026 It’s amazing how many times I have let this lesson go by without acting on it. I’m sure there are a lot of business owners out there who have done the same thing. At least I like to think I’m not the only one. I’m sure you know how it goes. We start with the intention of taking the necessary action every day and being consistent and persistent, because that’s how momentum builds. But something happens and we get distracted and consistent turns into...

Outsourcing Creating To One Of Our Creations May 29, 2026 I was reading one of my favorite newsletters today called Oberthinking by Justin Oberman. The article was called “How I use AI To Think Better”. It caught my attention because I’ve been using AI a lot lately to help with the development of a certification program. One of the points he made had to do with using AI to write. Lately I’ve been trying to put into words how AI is affecting people and the way we think and create. A Result I...
