Best Lemonade Stand Ever!

Best Lemonade Stand Ever!

August 16, 2025

One weekend recently my wife and I were leaving to go shopping when we noticed a lemonade stand on the way out of our neighborhood. Whenever kids in our neighborhood have a stand selling things we always try to stop and buy something. We enjoy encouraging entrepreneurship in kids. But this one was different.

This was the Jones family lemonade stand and it was the best lemonade stand we’ve ever seen. It was well planned, great products, and an attractive family atmosphere. They were selling fresh squeezed lemonade, a pureed strawberry drink, and children’s books. The family was made up of 2 kids and the mom and dad. The dad told me their kids had always been interested in business. So they encouraged them whenever possible.

From what I could see they were teaching them to do things the right way. As you can see from the picture above, they had marketing and sales, they had plenty of staff on hand (including security), a variety of products, and the best location in the neighborhood. And the kids were learning how to deal with customers. The kids were very friendly and respectful to everyone. They even had an upsell opportunity available with the strawberry drink and children’s books. It was a very pleasant experience for everyone.

The most impressive and encouraging part of the experience was that the parents were teaching their kids about money, running a business, and customer relations all in one place. And they were having a great time operating their business venture as a family.

So if your kids tell you they want to set up a lemonade stand or a cookie stand or whatever, don’t be so quick to throw cold water on their dreams. Give them a hand with it and give them the chance to learn how a business operates. They need to learn those skills and it’s up to parents to encourage that and teach them. And who knows, they might end up being your family’s first billionaire!

That's it for this time. See you next week!

When Leaders Become the Bottleneck (And Don’t Even Realize It) April 10, 2026 What does a newsletter writer do when he's got nothing? He gets his wife to bail him out. Ok, I'm kidding. Sort of. This is a very valuable article from my wife's newsletter The Leadership Mastermind. She sends it out to her email list and you can also find it on LinkedIn. Click here. From my favorite (and only) guest writer, Ericka: There’s a pattern I see in leadership coaching more often than most leaders expect....

Failure Teaches What Success Cannot April 3, 2026 How We Learn(or not) From Those Who Failed A few days ago I was thinking about what topic to write about for this issue of the newsletter. Maybe a story about an entrepreneur who had great success with their business and what was done to create that success. Hundreds of books have been written by successful business people about how they built their businesses to million and billion dollar successes. We are all impressed by those stories and...
