The One Between
December 26, 2026
This is that awkward week between Christmas and New Years Day. What do we do with it? Most people aren’t ready to go back to work even when they’re at work. Their butts are in seats but their hearts and minds are somewhere else. Productivity and engagement are low at best. At least for most. On New Years Eve people will party and many will wake up the next day in no condition for work. They should declare January 1st National Hangover Day. I’ve always thought New Years Day was a useless holiday.
But maybe it’s not quite as useless as I originally thought. It’s a day of reset. It’s a day when most people feel like they’re starting over. A new shot at their life, happiness, and success. I’ve always wondered why we wait until January 1st to make that reset. I have clients with businesses to sell worth millions of dollars with a definite need to sell now and yet they stall because they want to wait until…you guessed it- after the first of the year. Because apparently, aside from the importance of the holidays, December is a month where we really don't do anything unless you’re a retailer. Why is that?
I’m bringing up those issues to make a point. And because I want to use the following quote in my newsletter. I got it from a newsletter I’m subscribed to called “Beyond Wealth” by Thomas Bernthal. He talked about how every Christmas eve he remembers his brother Jimmy who died at the age of two on Christmas eve. Whatever our problems seem to be at this time of year you can be assured there are other people out there somewhere with far worse problems. So here’s the truth. It’s summed up in this quote:
“Joy and true happiness doesn’t depend on circumstances.
It’s an internal state.
It’s a choice to celebrate meaning even when life feels heavy, burdensome, or unfair.”
Thomas Bernthal
If you need a reset don’t wait for January 1st. Make it whenever it’s needed.
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and I hope you have a
great and prosperous New Year!
Thanks for being here!
