Make It Easy For Them To Give You Money

Author and business coach Paul Martinelli always taught to “Make it easy for them to give you money.” Why would you not make it easy for someone to give you money? It’s not only logical but it’s smart.
And yet I see it everywhere. Look at the long form sales letter. I can’t think of a more torturous, monotonous, and outright irritating journey to put a customer through before asking for the sale or offering a call to action. Long form sales videos are no different. I have yet to get completely through either before looking ahead to the end for a pay button. In most cases I just decide it’s not worth it and exit before buying. Give me the TLDR version! And by the way I also find it insulting that they think they have to give me the same information ten different ways.
Not Limited
You would think this would end with low ticket items. It does not. One of the highest ticket items I can think of is real estate. In my 15 years as a broker/agent I have seen many, many agents who take a listing on a property and then never answer their phone and never return calls. And it doesn’t just happen on houses. It also happens in commercial real estate, sometimes multi million dollar properties.
Buyers Become Hunters
A prospective buyer is left to hunt down the agent to get information or make an offer. That lack of communication also happens agent to agent. Whenever a new agent asks me what they need to do to succeed I tell them one thing. Answer your damn phone! That will put you ahead of 90% of all the agents in town. Make it easy for someone to buy. They will text, they will email, they will DM you on social media. But they won’t answer their phone. I don’t know about you but if I’m going to buy a million dollar property I expect some personal attention.
The sellers of these properties deserve better. If you have property listed with an agent I urge you to have a friend call about the property and see how difficult it is to contact them.
The Simple Solution
When I buy something online it makes me happy to see a simple landing page that spells out the offer, tells me about the benefits, a few testimonials and Call To Action buttons all over the place. Sometimes when I go to buy online I already know I want the product before I get to the site. I arrive ready to buy. I just ordered a book from Myron Golden. It’s short and simple. There is a buy button near the top of the page and another at the bottom. Short and simple. He made it easy for me to give him my money. How could I not buy it? He had a couple of upsell products, not eight or ten that pop up one at a time. That was it. Beautiful page.
So that’s my message this week. Make it easy for people to give you money. Provide them the path with the least resistance. But only if you want to sell more stuff.
