Growth - Do You Plan For It?
We’re wrapping up another year and starting a new one. This is when people start making plans for next year including all the outlandish resolutions that everyone knows will likely not happen. I don’t do new years resolutions for that reason. But we are creating new plans and a new mission statement for our business.
Expansion
This coming year we are expanding our business coaching services beyond leadership and team development. It’s time. As we grow personally, we need to grow in our business. That’s the time to expand what we do as a business. And our expansion will help others grow their businesses.
Have you ever been in a small town where the people resisted growth? I grew up in a town like that north of Dallas Texas. For years they resisted population growth, new roads, new business and city planning. And now that the surrounding small towns have embraced the growth, that growth went to them. They planned for it and welcomed it. Now those other little towns are cities with growing affluent populations, good schools, nice roads and great business opportunities.
A business can and will find itself in that same situation eventually. When you come to that point you have to make a decision. You have to plan for the growth that is coming anyway or resist it and have chaotic growth in your business.
You can choose to stay where you are. But remember this.
“If you’re not growing you’re dying.”
Jim Rohn
Why
Growth takes a lot of time and effort. It’s hard work. If you choose to not grow then why are you in business? Why do you invest? Why do you look for ways to create wealth? If you choose to not grow then you may as well quit your business and move on.
Why would I say such a thing? Sounds a little harsh. I say that because the reason you have a business in the first place is people need you. They need what you provide. You give them value and you solve their problems. Whatever it is you provide, if your business is calling you to grow that means the need for you and your business is growing.
Don’t let uncontrolled growth turn your business into something overwhelming. When that happens growth slows and you get stuck.
Growth is necessary. Plan for it and guide it along. Use coaches, consultants, mastermind groups, whatever it takes to grow and make your business a joy to be a part of. Start planning for next year now. There is no need to wait until the first week of January. And next year start even earlier.
I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and a happy Hanukkah!
