AI - Do You Love It Yet?

Artificial Intelligence- Opportunity Of A Lifetime

February 15, 2025

Artificial Intelligence – Do you love it? Do you hate it? Or do you not care? Some see it as an opportunity and some see it as a problem. It is both depending on how you plan for it.

There will be jobs lost and created. There will be professions that will cease to exist and there will be new professions created. Careers will end much earlier than anticipated. We go through this every time the world experiences a quantum leap in technological advancement.

Fortunes Made And Lost

It’s a lot like the Great Depression. Fortunes will be made and lost in a short period of time. One thing that I do believe is that those who are not able to unlearn and relearn will not make it. For over a century our education system has been churning out workers. They are not taught about money, and they are taught what to think, not how to think. That will have to change. That’s a topic for another article.

We can discuss and debate which jobs and which professions will come to an end. But in reality the most important job or profession is yours. What will you do to prepare? Have you even considered how AI will change your career path?

Think about this example. If you are 35 years old and you plan on retiring at 65, you have 30 years to your target date. But what if you just spent half of your adult life studying, learning, and preparing so you could have your current career. Suddenly the world no longer needs your expertise because AI can do it better, cheaper, and faster.

What Are You Willing To Do?

What do you do? You start over. Are you willing? But what new career do you choose? How do you know your next career won’t end up the same way only possibly quicker? Imagine this happens to someone in their fifties. Unless you have planned well it’s too early to retire. You have to make a change.

Consider the computer programmer. I always wanted to learn to code but I never had the patience for it. I had the creativity and desire to create software applications but not the patience to learn how.

Plain Language Programming!

A few days ago I went on ChatGPT and asked it to create a Windows app for me. I gave it the parameters and requirements in plain English, and uploaded a pdf graphic of what I wanted the user interface to look like. It was a simple app for daily productivity. In just a few minutes it created the code in Python for the app along with telling me the two items I would have to install on my PC to make it work with Windows. Plain language programming at last!

ChatGPT is not even the best AI platform available for creating software. I would not want to be a programmer right now, especially if I had just gone into heavy debt to get a computer science degree. However, in the short term the programmer’s job will likely be made a lot easier by using AI to assist them in creating software. Long term? Who knows at this point.

There are some activities I absolutely do not want AI or other automation technology to take over. I enjoy driving. I will not use a driverless car. I will never get on an airplane that is totally automated. I believe that’s coming eventually. Some things are meant for people to do either because they enjoy it or because human experience and creativity are required. There is also the adventurous spirit of humans to consider, and what it means to be a human.

When I started this newsletter I made sure that it was clear that I never use AI to write my articles. That’s why everything I write, when possible, I will display my “Written By Humans” logo. It’s not because I live in the past or am afraid of change. I use AI in my business every day and I plan to use it more in the future.

But when I create something I want it to be me. All the mistakes and flaws and rambling on that comes with humans during the creative process.

Safety?

What is a safe haven for your future? There are some things that AI cannot replace. There will always be businesses that are needed. People will always need to get things built, repaired, cleaned and moved. Everything under the sun will need to be bought and sold. There will always be real estate investors. Agents and brokers will probably go away but investors will always own properties because businesses will always need a place to operate from and people will always need a place to live.

AI will make us more financially efficient, more labor efficient, and more productive. As long as we don't use it to think for us we will can benefit from incredible opportunities by using AI. Our human creativity and innovation will ensure that we prosper.

So panic over AI is not necessary. I choose to look at it as one of the biggest opportunities to come along in my lifetime. Don’t run from it. Turn and jump on it!

Opportunities In West Texas June 28, 2025 This week I’m writing from west Texas. I’m in the Permian Basin meeting with a friend and real estate investor client to look at properties. Why go to west Texas to look for real estate investments? Opportunity. First, I believe Texas is probably the best state for real estate investing. The tax situation, the political climate, the incredible growth, and the pro-business attitudes all combine to create a an amazing investment atmosphere. This is not...

People Friction June 21, 2025 We recently took a survey of business owners at a business expo in the Dallas area. We asked what the biggest challenges were for their business. The top two answers were: Owner Reliance: The owner did so much of the work that the business could not run without the owner. Read my earlier article on that topic here. People Friction: There was always some kind of problem between the employees, with the employees, or between the employees and the owner, etc. The...

A Week With Grandkids-And Other Business Lessons June 14, 2025 This past week we had grandkids staying at our house. Without parents. Just us. Yeah. A week with two children, 7 and 10, 24 hours a day for seven days. Here’s how it went. Drive a 7 hour round trip to pick them up. A day at the splash pad. A day at the park. A day at the museum. A day at the zoo. Endless episodes of Phineas and Ferb. Shopping. Trying to guess what they would eat. Then a sad 7 hour round trip drive to take them...
