The Area In Between

There is an area between being poor and being rich. It can be thought of as a transition area. There are those who are transitioning up from poor to rich and pass through this transition zone. And there are those who are considered rich who for a variety of reasons have slid back down into this zone. Traversing this area can be difficult and dangerous. It’s where we take risks, where we overreact, and where we let fear into our thoughts and cloud decisions. This is where many people are tempted to give up.

Stickwithitness

Getting through this zone requires stickwithitness. That’s the ability to stick with something to the end and never give up. Do you have stickwithitness? If you do not then you may as well go back to your 9 to 5 prison right now. Just surrender to your comfort zone and lock yourself in for the rest of your life. And by the way, you’ll go back to being poor and broke. If you do have what it takes to continue on, know that this zone is the most critical zone for your financial future, your marriage, and your confidence and self esteem. It’s a high stress zone and could affect your health and well being.

Time For Changes

This is the time when changes have to be made. You’ve climbed up to this point from being poor. You have changed how you think about money and you’ve changed your relationship with money. You have changed your financial habits. But there is always going be a barrier to cross to get to the next level and this is one of them.

Imagine you are driving on a winding road having a great time taking each turn as fast as you can and then flying down the straight stretches of road before heading into another group of crazy turns. You’re having a blast! But then something unexpected happens. It starts to rain. Suddenly the road is wet and slick and you are having a hell of a time keeping your car on the road.

What do you do? You have to change something. You could give up and park the car until the rain stops. But that would mean you would be late to your destination. Or worse, you could get stuck in the mud. Or you could change the way you are driving. Plan ahead for the next set of treacherous slippery turns. Slow down and brake differently.

Hit It!

In your financial life this requires a complete mindset shift. It might also require some outside help like a coach, a mentor, a community or mastermind group. In the aviation world they would be analogous to an afterburner on a jet fighter. When you need to cover a distance much quicker than normal and your aircraft needs a boost to do it you hit the afterburner. When it kicks in you feel a kick in the butt and your speed increases rapidly. But it comes at a cost. You burn more fuel by using it.

The same is true when hiring a coach or joining a community or mastermind. It will require an investment in time and money but that investment will be multiplied when you put it to use. You’ll cover a greater distance in a shorter time period.

Don’t be afraid to make that decision. Every business owner at some point needs a boost from a mentor or a coach. And now we have the added ability to join communities of people online who can help each other grow their businesses.

After you’ve crossed the area between being poor and being rich, just when you think “This is it! I made it!”, you realize now you have another barrier to cross. It’s the area between being rich and being wealthy. What’s the difference between rich and wealthy? That’s a topic for another article. How do you cross the area between rich and wealthy? Stickwithitness, coaches, mentors, communities and masterminds.
